David Nickum, executive director of Colorado Trout Unlimited, said he hopes Prop DD will stimulate environmental and water conservation programs, much like Great Outdoors Colorado has. GOCO is the 1992 ballot initiative that has helped preserve hundreds of thousands of acres of historical ranches and open space across Colorado, protecting them from development. It is funded with state lottery proceeds.

“We’re pleased that Colorado voters are making a decision to invest in our resources, using the water plan as a road map for that,” Nickum said.

We are excited to announce our 2020 River Stewardship Award winner – Jeff Shoemaker of The Greenway Foundation. As Executive Director of the Greenway Foundation, Mr. Shoemaker has led a true revival of Denver’s urban rivers. From promoting parks and responsible development along greenways, to raising funds for a Chatfield environmental pool to benefit South Platte stream flows, to developing education programs that engage thousands of Denver kids every year, the Greenway Foundation under Shoemaker’s leadership has embodied the concept of river stewardship for an urban community. In addition to our honoree, we will host Hank Patterson, fly fishing guide and entertainer. Hank will join us for the evening and close the evening out with a fun presentation that is not to be missed!

The Colorado TU Gala regularly sells out, so get your tickets early or sponsor a table and bring your friends and business associates. Learn more by visiting this link. We hope to see you on March 5, 2020 as we celebrate Colorado’s rivers and fisheries and honor Jeff Shoemaker as our 2020 River Stewardship Award winner.

Hitting the slopes for native trout

gilsonpartner.jpg

Here’s what Gilson had to say about the partnership:

We've teamed up with one of our favorite grassroots conservation organizations, Colorado Trout Unlimited, and one of the most talented outdoor artists in the world, Nick Laferriere to bring these Special Edition Snowboard and Skis to you! For every board or pair of skis built, Gilson Snow will donate $75 to CTU to be used in their conservation efforts to protect and expand populations of native trout in the state of Colorado.

Using Gilson's most versatile All Mountain models, Nick has designed artwork that embodies our passions of getting on the mountain and getting into the river. Whether exploring the backcountry or cruising a groomer, the Fly By is well equipped to handle a multitude of terrain and condition combinations. If matching the hatch and finding powder stashes are both up your alley, the Fly By is the board or skis you need in your quiver.
